Terminal 1 at Indira Gandhi International Airport now exclusively caters to domestic carriers. With a revitalised look, it has become India's largest domestic terminal, offering a significantly enhanced passenger experience with increased annual handling capacity. This upgrade reflects the airport's dedication to providing a seamless and modern journey for domestic travellers.

Now capable of handling 40 million passengers annually, Terminal 1 welcomes travellers with its spacious and contemporary design. The Platinum grade LEED certified New Terminal 1 building has adopted green, environment-friendly construction methods. The soaring ceilings create an open and breathable atmosphere. The breathtaking aesthetic elevates with changing roof colours depicting different shades through day and night.

The high-tech self-check-in machines, queue buster mobile check-in, and advanced scanners ensure swift movement through the terminal. With an expanded number of baggage belts, T1 offers a seamless, efficient experience from check-in to baggage claim, making your journey smooth and enjoyable.

Terminal 1 Levels

L1, Delhi Airport, can be reached via an escalator that goes down from L4. It provides flyers access to Bussing Gates from 31 to 45

Situated on the opposite ends, level 2 and level 3 are located on the same floor. L 2/3 at terminal 1 provide access to the arrival piers connected to the baggage belt and transfer area.

Operating as the departure level for domestic passengers, L4 is quite large. Beginning from the check-in hall, PESC, and SHA, it leads to the boarding gates 2-23. Plus, a few retail stores are also situated at level four, terminal 1, Delhi Airport, for enjoyable shopping therapy.

  • The New T1 Terminal Building & Eastern Cross Taxiway Bridge won awards from ICI-NDC (Indian Concrete Institute, New Delhi Centre) for outstanding concrete structure - Building & Infrastructure, 2024 respectively.
  • AERA Chairman visited the new facilities developed under Phase 3A on 19th Sep 24.

Transport to/from Terminal 1

A handy guide to help commute to and from Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport

Delhi Airport has a free shuttle service to help passengers commute between the terminals. Both flyers and staff can avail of this facility.

The Inter-Terminal shuttle can be boarded at Lane 1 Arrivals at T1. Follow the signs after dropping your bags to reach the shuttle. After presenting your boarding pass to the officials in charge at the kiosks, you can get a coupon for the free transit bus.

A shuttle arrives every 20 minutes

To transit to and from T1, prepaid cabs, OLA, Uber, Meru cabs, WTi cabs, Mega cabs, and Carzonrent are available, among others. Flyers can book cab services via their smartphones or by calling their offices.

Taxis can be booked for commuting between the terminals from the Taxi Counters inside the airport premises. Flyers can board a taxi from T1 Arrivals.

For passengers needing to travel between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) Metro Feeder Bus Service offers a convenient option. Catch the feeder bus from designated stops at both terminals for a nominal fee of ₹40. Please note this service is not available for transfers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

A feeder bus arrives every 20 minutes

Delhi Metro is another convenient commute option to access Terminal 1. The Magenta Line links Janakpuri West to the Botanical Garden while connecting to Terminal 1-IGI Airport station. The transit time between T1 and the Botanical Garden is approximately 50 minutes.

Spicejet and Indigo primarily operate from the New Terminal 1.
Terminal 1 has its own metro station. The Magenta Line links Delhi metro stations Janakpuri West to the Botanical Garden while connecting to Terminal 1-IGI Airport station.
