Located in the capital city of India, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi is the preferred Air Cargo Hub of India due to its strategic location, hosting elaborate infrastructure and efficient air cargo handling services.
The cargo facility at Delhi Airport is spread across an area of 150 acres comprising state-of-the-art infrastructure, 2 integrated cargo terminals, an on-airport logistics centre, and the largest airline network connecting 70+ International and 80+ Domestic destinations served by 67+ air carriers and 30+ freighter airlines.
Delhi Airport is India’s largest air cargo gateway handling over one million metric tonnes of cargo annually. The first AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) certified airport by Indian Customs, Govt. of India, Delhi Airport is the first facility to receive e-AWB 360 certification from IATA (International Air Transport Association) for 100% e-Freight compliant processes.
Delhi Airport Cargo has grown significantly ever since it took over operations in 2006. It has witnessed sustained business growth in the past years.
Delhi Airport has carved out its niche by becoming India’s biggest cargo-handling airport by registering over ‘One Million’ cargo handling annually in the year 2018 while consistently improving its infrastructure and operational efficiencies.
Delhi Airport has state-of-the-art cargo terminal facilities with a capacity to handle around 1.8 million metric tonnes, scalable to over 2.5 million metric tonnes. It has advanced temperature control cargo handling facilities with over 1.5 lakh metric tonnes capacity at present.
Delhi Airport has witnessed consistent growth in the air cargo department since the time it took over operations in the year 2006. While its journey started in 2006 when it handled an air cargo volume of 0.38 million metric tonnes, Delhi Airport has consecutively achieved 1.0 million Metric tonnes in the financial year 2024 and 2025. The consistent growth story of our cargo business is a result of continuous improvement not just in terms of infrastructure advancement but also upscaling of operational efficiencies in each sphere of air cargo handling activities at the airport.

Delhi Airport is recognized for its state-of-the-art temperature control cargo terminal facility, which is equipped with advanced technology and specialized handling equipment to process the temperature-controlled product with utmost care and safety. While the Cargo terminals have in place separate chambers of varied temperature range for storage of cargo, there are other facilities like insulated loading/ unloading bays and cool dollies to move the cargo from Terminal to the Aircraft, thus ensuring the much needed unbroken cold supply chain at the airport.
"Transshipment Excellence Centre" (TEC)
Delhi Airport has set-up India's first dedicated Transshipment Excellence Centre (TEC) at the Airside, which is spread over an area of 7,500 sqm; providing seamless and efficient transshipment services for the cargo shipments on 24x7hrs basis. The processing of the transshipment cargo is achieved within average 20 minutes; thus bringing efficiency to the entire cargo supply chain.
Delhi Airport is the first airport in India, which can handle various types of air cargo products, be it perishable & pharma cargo, project cargo, heavy cargo, live animals, dangerous goods, radioactive materials, gems and jewelry and so on. There are dedicated sections and earmarked zones for each set of cargo handling with required infrastructure and skilled manpower to cater to the need of specialized/ customized air cargo services. The cargo terminals are equipped with appropriate handling equipment ranging from sensitive screening equipment to bulk lifters like cranes, capable of handling any type and size of cargo that is moved by air.
Delhi Airport has also facilitated the Road Feeder Services (RFS) in Bonded Trucks for transit for cargo originating from the catchment region. The contracted trucking companies serve through an extensive surface network throughout India for delivering airfreight cargo to and from Delhi Airport.

With a vision to make Delhi Airport the Cargo Gateway of India, two specialised Cargo Terminal Operators, namely M/s. Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt. Ltd. (CDCTMIPL) and M/s. Delhi Cargo Service Centre (DCSC) were appointed in 2009-10 as concessionaires for operating and managing the cargo handling activities at the airport. CDCTMIPL has upgraded and modernised the existing cargo terminals while DCSC has developed a Greenfield terminal with modern facilities bringing the overall capacity of cargo terminals to 1.8 Million Metric Tonnes per annum, scalable to 2.5 Million Metric tonnes per annum.
Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt.Ltd. operates the brown field Cargo Terminal of Delhi Airport. The existing Cargo Terminal was revamped, expanded and modernized in the year 2011-12, thereby significantly enhancing the operational efficiency and performance standards.

Delhi Cargo Service Centre (DCSC) operates Cargo Terminal-2 of Delhi Airport. Delhi Cargo Service Centre established in India offers Air Cargo handling services, Cold Chain Logistics and Consultancy services. With its experience of over 17 years, DCSC provides a comprehensive one-stop solution meeting the full scope of cargo handling requirement for its clients.

As one of the strategic objectives to become a Cargo Hub Airport of the region, Delhi Airport has developed first of its kind On-Airport warehousing facility, namely Airport Cargo Logistics Centre 1 & 2 to improve the overall efficiency of air cargo supply chain. These airport cargo logistics centres have been leased out to various leading freight forwarders, e-commerce companies and other logistics players to facilitate their activities of consolidation and other value-added services, thereby making the air cargo supply chain more efficient. Going forward, there are plans to develop much larger state-of-the-art logistics facilities at Delhi Airport, in line with leading airports of the world, to further boost the air cargo growth.
The airport is the vital point in a whole supply chain of air cargo logistics and having a Cargo City within the airport premises helps in improving the overall efficiency of this supply chain. Cargo City helps in anchoring Freight forwarders and other logistics players who form the second tier of stakeholders in overall air cargo supply chain are the key links between the Shippers and Airlines and airports.
The Cargo City infrastructure at Delhi Airport will house state of the art warehousing and logistics facilities spanning around 1,00,000 sqm area with seamless integration with the Cargo Terminals. With its proximity to the Cargo Terminals and main access road, the Cargo City will offer a great advantage to the Freight Forwarders and Logistics companies to fulfil their needs for interim warehousing, consolidation and value add activities; thus helping them significantly in enhancing the efficiency of their air cargo supply chain.
Delhi Airport has dedicated Terminal and Facilities to handle the International Express Cargo providing efficient services with customized solutions. With seamless operations and simplified procedures in place, the handling and processing of the Express cargo is performed in a couple of hours; fulfilling the needs of the customers.

Several initiatives have been implemented at Cargo Terminal to save green, both in terms of operational and infrastructural activities.
At Airport level, Delhi Airport cargo is extremely conscious about Green initiatives and keeps implementing various initiatives to reduce carbon emission, particularly with respect to cargo handling processes. Our Cargo Terminal Operators (CTOs) have also been implementing several measures towards the green initiatives, such as the use of battery-operated handling equipment, use of green energy etc.
