DEL stands out as a contemporary airport on a global scale. It has garnered recent accolades from multiple international forums. Among these, the airport was honored with the SKYTRAX World Airport Award in 2017 for being the Best Airport in India and Central Asia. Additionally, in 2016, Delhi Airport secured the esteemed position of the world's second-best airport in the category of over 40 million passengers per annum (mppa) by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Over a period of time, Delhi airport has emerged as a new international Hub airport in South East Asia. DEL is now connected with more than 144 destinations with 53 Foreign Carriers and 9 Indian carriers. Delhi Airport handled a record 65.3 million passengers in FY2023 with a growth of 66% YoY. The airport added 26 million passengers in the financial year. International transfers/transit constitutes 22% of the international passengers. In terms of Cargo, the airport handled a record 896 thousand metric tonnes of cargo with a de-growth of 3.1% YoY.

With the projected growth of Indian Aviation, DEL is growing at a very fast pace. In order to cater to the demand of India as well as ASEAN countries, the air service development team at DEL is working towards increasing both international and domestic connectivity.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport is conveniently located about 10 km from the city centre, connected by high speed metro rail to city centre and directly opens into the national highway system.

Oberoi’s New Facility

Pursuant to a competitive bidding process, DIAL has awarded a new in-flight catering facility to EIH Ltd. for 25 yrs. EIHL has developed a state of the art in-flight catering facility in approximately 18,500 square meters of land at Indira Gandhi Airport. This new facility which is ISO 22000:2005 certified is equipped with latest equipment to meet requirements of International quality standards and has a capacity to produce and deliver 18,000 meals per day.
